Concealable vests are soft armor and there are different levels of soft body armor, which are regulated by the National Institute of Justice. There are three different levels of concealable vests: level IIA, level II, and level IIIA. You can also choose concealable stab-proof vests if you think you need protection from edged blades.

Level IIA

Level IIA concealable vest is the lightest and most flexible type of armor. On the flip side, it also offers the least amount of protection. The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) has determined that a level IIA vest can stop a full metal jacket bullet traveling at up to.9mm at an estimated 165 feet per second. The Level IIA armor doesn’t provide so much protection in the face of serious ballistic threats.

Level II

When it comes to concealable protection, a level II concealable vest is ideal because it provides a significant amount of protection against the most common pistol calibers while still being less bulky. It is comfortable to wear for extended periods, and easier to hide than level IIIa armor. The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) declared the Level II body armor effective against most pistol rounds, including those of the.9mm, .45ACP, .40 S&W, and. 357 magnum calibers. As a result of this, level II armor is a very common choice for concealed armor vests.

Level IIIA

Level IIIA concealable vests provide the greatest degree of protection against ballistic threats; however, it is also the most cumbersome of all the armor levels. Despite this, it is very popular, and most law enforcement agents and other security agencies use it as an undergarment to wear when they are on duty. The National Institute of Justice has determined that level IIIA concealable vests can stop pistol rounds with a caliber as large as.44 magnums.
